Norton uninstall problem
I tried to uninstall all Norton applications from WindowsXP. The program is no longer listed in the add/remove programs application window, but (Norton Security Center) remains in the systray. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to completely rid my system from Norton...(it almost seems like Norton is a virus!!!!!)??? It came installed on the system, I have no disks to reinstall it.....

Search around on Symantec's website, I believe they have instructions on how to manually uninstall it. I had to do that once because my computer crashed during an uninstall, and the program was still halfway functional but was missing enough it wouldn't let me uninstall.

Also, they sometimes include an uninstall utilitiy with their products. You might explore the install CD.

If the automatic removal leaves you with problems, you can try manual removal...

thanks again peekaboo....
went there and did that.....all is well....God, I hate Norton and how incredibly invasive and overpowering it is. It came pre-installed on the laptop that I bought for my wife, I never would've installed it by choice. |

Way too many programs fit that description! Not just Norton. I have to give Norton credit for giving help on their Web site on how to uninstall their programs, which way too few companies do.

TwoRails-
I think most non-tech oriented folks just want everything done for them, (not to have to think for themselves).....which opens the gateway for software like this. personally, I prefer to maintain what control of my system I can...granted, this is never complete control (systems DO have a way of developing a mind of their own), but I would never give in to Norton's style of practically re-inventing the O.S... Sure, I'll give them credit for having help on their site, but with the volume of sales they have, they are practically forced to do this..... back to devide zero.......and thanks all again for your help. |
