Nothing but background shows on PC

Hello,

I am having a problem on my PC. Nothing shows on my desktop except for my background. What should i do? alt ctrl delete works... when i go into safe mode, it doesnt show anything, just the background. same with Last Known Good Configuration.

Any Ideas??

Thanks

press ctrl + alt + del, then click file and then new teask, then type explorer.exe.
This should bring back icons and the taskbar etc.

if you're using Win2000 or WinXP you can try typing explorer.exe in new task on ctrl+alt+del, if no luck maybe try a system restore to a time when you know it did work. you can also try a restore if you have WinMe

Right click your desktop and on the context menu, go to "Arrange Icons By". On the sub-menu, see whether "Show Desktop Icons" has a tick next to it. If not, click it and refresh your desktop (F5 or right-click and select Refresh).
