Right click on desktop, go to properties > Desktop tab > Click Customize Desktop Button > Go to Web Tab and uncheck everything on that page... OK your way out of the screens.

Is there any other way to get to the web tab without right clicking on the desktop because that is currently not an option. Is there a route through control panel to get there?

Also, ON ANOTHER MACHINE how can I get rid of that SPYWARE INFECTION backround? I think it is an active desktop but there is nothing checked under customize BUT SEEMS TO STILL BE THERE AS ACTIVE??? |

Hags - are either of these machines the new Acer laptop in one of your other threads? If so, the Acer definitely sounds like it needs either a Recovery Disk, or a thorough cleanup.
It's likely your Active Desktop has an "active infection" = doublecheck your local antivirus with a scan at Panda or HouseCall. Housecall is over at http://housecall.trendmicro.com When you turn Active Desktop off, it should stay off, unless you have malware. If your system settings are changing and you don't know why - infection is the most likely cause. When you're sure the drive is infection-free, run a repair install of XP to restore default Control Panel applets to their original condition - do this while disconnected from any networks. Have your firewall and antivirus active before reconnecting, and visit Windows Update immediately for Security patches. . . . Gary |
