windows xp home setup woes

i just built a new computer, and i have built this same computer many times (these parts) without this issue, so i am stumped

trying to set up xp home sp2, go through the normal formatting, and it gets to the point where it is setting up windows (about 26 minutes left in installation), and i get a screen that pops up saying:

Setup cannot Copy the File cmprops.dl_

and it gives me the option to browse. so i find the file in d:\i386, but it doesn't take it and keeps giving me the same message. i found the error, but it only applies to server 2k3, with no mention of xp

the specs are:
amd sempron 2800+
asus k8s-mx
512mb corsair ram
80gb seagate sata
16x nec dvd+/-

i am at my wit's end here, so if anyone has any ideas, i would greatly appreciate it. i have started from scratch, re-formatting at least three times now, and its still giving me the same errors. any advice would be awesome

alright, new update. i had an extra xp pro disc laying around, so i decided to see if that would work, and sure enough, it did. i am running xp pro just fine. problem is, the key belongs to me, so i need to take xp off. this was merely a test. possible it was just a bad home disc? what can i do at this point, as i know its hard to replace software. can i just use another xp sp2 home disc with this computer's serial? i need to give the person a disc, and i guess i would prefer that it be a legit, straigh from MS disc, even if its legal to make a copy. your insight is appreciated
