Scheduled Task and the Login Screen
Hey Guys,
I'm trying to set up the scheduled tasks in xp; now this may be a dumb question so bare with me. If i set up adaware as a scheduled task, when xp runs it, will it actually scan my system, or will it just open up the program? i'm assuming the latter. i saw there's a feature on adaware to have it scan automatically but i can't get those settings to work, has anyone been able to do this or do i need to "upgrade" it? also, if i want the scheduled task to defrag my harddrive, how would that work, if i a scheduled taks merely opens the program? on a final note, i remember there being a tip of the day on how to get rid of the xp login screen but i can't find it in my inbox anymore, i'd appreciate that tip if anyone has it on hand. Thanks! |

Hi nin137
I haven't heard whether Task Scheduler can do an automated AdAware scan, but I imagine it couldn't hurt to try it out [and just remove the task from the list if it doesn't work]. You are right that the built-in scheduling features of AdAware are disabled in the "free" version (and yes, and upgrade to the "pro" version includes that feature enabled). Here's a MS blurb on scheduling Disk Defragmenter using the Task Scheduler: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...s/gehrke1.mspx I don't recommend disabling login windows for security reasons, unless you encrypt your stored passwords with a strong encryption scheme [even then, I still can't say I recommend it]. I haven't seen the PC Mech tip for bypassing the screen (usually that's reserved for standalone, non-Internet connected machines = where you de-select the action button "users must enter a username and password to use this computer" [Start, Settings, Control Panel, Users and Passwords] . . . Best of luck . . . Gary |
