how to Change product key WINXP Sp2

My PC is apparently running a copy of WINXP, I have purchased a legit version of the s/ware, WINXP Pro. Any way that I can install it without having to re-format the exist. drive.

I called Microsoft and registered i.e. they took all my info., then politely told me that it is not possible. So i figured I'd ask one of the guru's here!

BTW, I can find some links that say i can, apparently rem'g some number in regsirty. etc. But I think it may only apply to SP1.

regards.

Hi know if this s/ware will change the product key from the copied vers. of WINXP SP2, to the WINXP that I just went out and bought? (actually the one I have now with the correct Prod key doen't have SP2)

The link in the s/ware (keyfinder) when I selct to "Change Windows Key" sends me to:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q328874

this link discusses;

"If you use a "leaked" product key (a product key that is known to be available to the general public) for the deployment of Microsoft Windows XP across multiple computers (a Volume Licensing installation), you may not be able to install Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or automatically obtain updates from the Windows Update Web site."

The guy that installed this vers of XP Pro, also went around SP1 and installed SP2. So will this keyfinder, work on this SP?

Thanks 4 again for your help.
