i wonder, why is it that on my desktop with windows xp media center 2005 it will not let me remove msn messenger from the startup list. i cant stand seeing that messenger on startup. on my laptop i usually keep my norton and mcafee and the my sound option on board for system startup, and would like to have the same on the desktop. can anyone tell me how to remove the msn messenger setting within media center to keep it from replacing itself on the startup list? furthermore, ive been using this configuration for years on system tray, can anyone else point out their configs for system tray and suggest more or less items to improve post startup resources.
thanks Bob |

I am not sure if it will work with MCE, but it works in normal XP so I'd give it a try:
START > RUN RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove RJ

Start messenger, go to tools--options--preferences--uncheck run when windows starts
Edit: thats for windows messenger. for msn messenger start it--tools-options general and uncheck the box

Startup Control Panel by Mike Lin is a nifty, small program, that will controll ALL startup programs. Very easy to setup & use (you can easily reverse as well).
A MUST have program on my computer. Last edited by bozo; 04-21-2010 at 02:35 PM. |
