BIOS Problem
I used the Bios updater program on my computer last night to update the bios to the newest version. After I did, the computer has not booted up. It tells me that there is a disk read error and I have to hit ctrl-alt-del to restart and try again. I've had several people dig through the bios to make sure that the hard drives and everything are recognized and set up right. I have tried making a floppy with an older bios version and reflashed it, but it still gives the same errors. I have run out of ideas, and am wondering what might have happened, and how I might be able to fix it. I've heard that updating the bios can potentially fry the motherboard, but I don't know. I have an Epox 9NPA+sli motherboard and two 80 gig harddrives on a raid0.

I'm not familiar with that mobo, but there should be a BIOS switch to set it up to run in RAID mode, meaning at least to turn on the RAID channel. Flashing a BIOS usually turns this feature off since most folks boot to a normal (non-RAID) drive setup.

I have done that, and it recognizes it as a "healthy raid stripe", but it still reads as a disk error.

Since I've never setup a RAID system (I personally have no need for one and no one has wanted one on my builds) I'm not up on it as I should be. I would use the drive manufacture's diagnostic tools from their Web site to verify that the drives have no problems.
Anybody else have any ideas?? |
