Problem during boot up Windows XP

Recently a new problem has started in my Computer, When I boot Computer ,my WinXP doesnot completely load, only the background picture appears on the screen ,no taskbar, or icons appear on the screen. The Mouse Pointer does move but right click on it doesnot work.

First I thought that their might be a program in the startup which could be causing this problem but even after removing some programs from it, the problem remains unsolved.

Also I reinstalled winxp but that didnot work as well, I runned noadware software and it detected lot of infected files in the registry ,I ran Registry Mechanic Software which did some job and removed the infected files but still their are 27 infected files in the system.

I downloaded Virus Removal Tools from Norton.com and ran them but they couldnot find any such Virus in the system.

Now the problem during the booting might be taking place because of these infected files but the question is that what caused these infected files?

The Virus Removal Tool that I used were:

"Fix Winsh" and "Fxsecefa"

I am using WinXP pro edition.

I have explained my problem in detail and I hope my concern is clear to all.

Any help?

Regards,

Try running Spybot Search and Destroy, Adaware, and an online scan at TrendMicro.
Let them fix whatever they find, then let us now if they solved the problem. If not there are further steps to take.

Try booting into safe mode. When there run all your scans and see what they find.. I personally don't trust those registry fixers I have had problems with then which had caused me to reinstall windows all over again... If all else fails then try a fresh install.. don't install over exsisting copy..

How to enter safe mode ?

You had problems with registry fixers , but I have downloaded these anti-virus removal tools from www.norton.com which is a reliable and trusted site.

Safe mode access varies by computer brand. You usually need to hit one of the F keys at startup to get there. It might be in your manual, or post what the computer is and someone here will know which key it is.

If this is a home built computer, hit F8 repeatedly right after the first POST sceen changes to the next one.

I tried to enter safe mode by pressing F8 Key repeatedly but instead of taking me to safe mode , a screen loads on the Computer asking me whether I want to boot the system from HDD,CD-ROM or Floppy Drive.

I downloaded spybot, installed it on the Computer and scaned my entire Computer with it ,but still the problem remains as it was.

What kind of computer is this exactly? A home built? A name brand? A laptop?

When I was running the 2 virus removal tools which I downloaded from www.norton.com ? I got the messege that they should be run in safe mode.
But since I couldnot enter safe mode, I ran them in normal mode, I hope I havent made any mistake by running them in normal mode?

Boot from the hard drive and immediately start hitting F8 again. You should get a boot menu.

The problem is because of a virus or your computer is stuck. If it's a virus the best way to remove it is format your drives and reinstall windows. If this doesn't work you have to buy a new pc.

Have you formatted your drives before the you have reinstalled windows? If you haven't it will maybe work if you scan in save mode.

Well, are you sure that after formating the drive, the virus will be completely removed, what if the virus enters the boot sector?

How come I am not able to enter in safe mode even after pressing F8 key when I boot my computer.

It can be a boot sector virus but there is a big change that the problem is solved when you format your drive. There are DOS commands who can be used to restore the boot sectors, but I dont know anything about them.

Another way to get into safe mode is turning off your computer by pushing and hold the shut down button when windows is loading or when you are in windows. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice something like "the computer did not successfully boot" and it gives you the Windows advanced options screen where you can enter safe mode.

If the problem is solved, install a virus scanner and a spyware/adware scanner, but especially be carefull.

You can wipe the entire drive by zero-filling it. You can use Darik's Boot and Nuke or KillDisk to zero-fill your current hard drive.

My computer does boot into windows the only thing is that it doesnt boot directly into it. i start the computer and it starts up into the cmos/bios screen it says press f1 to continue or del to enter setup. f1 enters windows but the thing is i want to bypass this. I want the computer to boot directly into windows without me having to be involved. Answers plz
