Exclamation Compaq 7000 new HD Problem with XP

I have a compaq 7EL 7000T Tower with the following specs.

P3 - 733
WD 30GB HD
128MB PC133
SB Live! SC
some cheap stock VC

Heres the prob. I had formated the HD. all factory restore disks were lost a few years ago (had Win98 stock). Since the BIOS was outdated I took out the HD put in my PC (HP) installed XP Pro SP2 workeds great. put norton on it and other programs. drive works great. Put back in the Compaq wont boot to windows just gives me a error message. SO at this point I updated the BIOS. Still no luck booting. So I reformatted the HD and try to install XP on the Compaq thinking this may have caused the prob. still no luck. Compaq CS needs alot to be desired as they cant even speak good english. Someone help me please I tried every thing except flashing the BIOS with the Mitac BIOS info but some said dont do this even though they made the MOBO. Any help would be great..

What "happens" when you try to install XP on the Compaq?

Once the boot CD finishes copying file it usally restarts the system to finish install. In this case it does restart but after the "Press any key to boot from CD" goes away it just stops. and comes up with some kind of error messege. My Hp that I did the same process on twice is only like 3 years old running AMD Athlon XP1800+ and 640Mb Ram. I'm about ready to throw away Compaqs MB and get another one. The system did run fine though when it had 98 on it so I know the MB is good I think its just the Compaq "Put together"

Unless you need to run software that *requires* XP, I think I would have left it at Win2000 with those specs. 128mb of ram is not much for XP to play with.

I'm going to upgrade both processor and memmory then probbly sell it or just keep it for back up since the customer dont want it anymore. plus I bought it for 20 buck.

1Gig proc. - 30
128 or 256 Ram - 30

80 for a whole computer aint to bad plus its got a 30GB HD and CD Burner in it. probbly sell it for 100.00 is that fair?
