I just installed 2003 SBS to play with. I am trying to get all my local account settings over to the domain. I did this before and ran into some conflicts. It doesn't appear to be the same as the 2000 days...
Is there an easier way to do this so things like Outlook settings and everything that has been set up on the local computer transfers over when joining the domain? I have played with the file and settings transfer wizard and that appears to be lacking. Maybe I just need to know what files or folders in the profile DO NOT need to be transferred. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks |

Be careful when dealing with SBS. It has it's own special set of rules which differ from those of Server 2003 Standard (and to a lesser extent XP).
To be completely honest, I would start from scratch, as a lot of standard services (IIS being the biggest) have slightly different security requirements. Also 2003 SBS requires you to make it a domain controller (otherwise it will continually shutdown your system after 90 days), so I would recommend you do this when you initially set it up. |

Maybe I didn't clarify? I have one computer running W2K3 SBS and one running XP Pro. Once I join the domain I am a different user. I would like to get everything out of the Local Profile into the new Domain profile so that I don't have to set up things like Outlook again...have all the mail and account settings...come over. I would also like to not have to set any software up again. Is there a way to take the whole profile and copy it to the new domain profile or....certain parts of the local profile to the domain profile without causing any OS or software conflicts?

The settings transfer wizard is sketchy. It really doesn't work well at all. Transfer what you can through the wizard, but the rest you will have to "rebuild" yourself. I had to do this on 6 machines, as none of them worked with the settings transfer wizard. |
