How to tell Windows I added Memory?
I added new memory to my computer but it doesn't reconize it. Seems to me I remember you have to tell Windows you added memory? I can't find where in Windows XP to do so. Anyone know
[and what about plug and play... didn't the Apple II have automatic memory recognition years ago?] |

No, you don't have to tell Windows you added more memory. Some more details would help: what type / model mobo do you have? What RAM, and how much did you install? What did you have before? Have you gone into the BIOS to see what is reported? What is reported on bootup?

I know, I thought I didn't have to tell Windows I added memory, but I had to do it before. I think a person on this forum told me how. It worked. I just can't remember what to do.

Oh, and BIOS and Wiindows still reports the old amount 128 meg. I have rebooted my computer also. Still doesn't work.

Are you adding the same type of RAM? Brand and speed?

Oooops I decided to double check the installation, found out the I didn't use enough force to connect to the board. The computer now sees the new memory [ and runs much quicker!]
However, last time I did have a problem where I had to go into Windows and adjust a setting. I wish I knew what that was. Wow, you had to resintall Winodws? Ouch. |
