search function has taken over XP SP2

for some reason the card reader drives dont show an icon like removeable storage icons normally appear, so i was searching around windows trying to change the icon, but i managed to mess up how windows displays files.

now when i used to open C: drive i would get to "open" the folders and files thumbnails show up in a windows, but now i get the windows explorer or search function.

this now happens to all the drives in my computer.

how do i make the folders and files come back to "Open" or "Explore" and get rid of search?

i was in My computer/folder options/files types/advanced when this happened.

Take a look in the View tab of Folder Options. Is the 3rd box down checked? "Display simple folder view in Explorer's folders list". Check that one if it's not checked. Also, the reason your card reader icons are disappearing is most likely because you are using the "Safe to remove hardware " icon by the clock before removing the media card. This shuts down the media reader(s). You'll need to restart the pc to get them back. Instead, use My Computer, right click the card reader slot and "eject" the card prior to removal. This will allow the card reader to remain active while releasing the card. It won't really eject, you'll need to withdraw it.

the card readers i havent used at all, there just isnt an icon for it. i tried stopping the RHS option but it still comes back into the sys tray.
think it maybe the cheap card reader driver not displaying the icon maybe?

something ive noticed is that "search" appears at the top of the list then "open" then "explore" when i right click on C: drive or D: drive, where as on my other xp system "Open" is at the top then "explore" then "search".
