Disable Outlook Express From Compacting files

I am running Windows XP home. I use Outlook Express 6 for my email and sometimes when I close Outlook Express a display pops up in the middle of my screen saying compacting files. How do I disable Outlook Express from compacting the files? Thank you.

I looked around for quite awhile and even Googled this, and I still can't find a way to turn off the compacting function. I really don't know that you'd want to though, since compacting the files makes them take up less disk space and actually makes your OE folders load faster than if they weren't compacted. OE essentially is making a database out of your messages, and alot of databases do compacting by default to help speed things up.

You can't disable it, but maybe another mail prog. There aren't much differences between the mail progs but you can try some(like Thunderbird).
I don't use this programs because I like the gmail webmail(If anyone wants gmail you can ask me).

If it allows Outlook Express to load faster, then I will leave it alone. Thanks for your responses.

As I recall, it does it every twenty times you close it.

One good thing about it is when you delete mail it goes to the deleteItems.dbx file. Even if you empty that file it stays large till you compress it....

As with anything, always backup your important files.
