MS Windows XP - Plextor CD Writer, driver problem

Hello,

my CD Writer is a Plextor :

52/24/52A (EIDE)
Manufacturer: Plextor
Model: PX-W5224TA/T3

Operating System : Windows XP Professional Edition, [Service Pack 2].

Some times after restarting my PC an error message appears that ''System recovered from a serious error...'' etc. When i try to turn the PC Off it reboots.
The troubleshooting report makes mention of a driver problem; in one attempt to solve the problem i experimented with the Plextor driver.

I right-clicked on My Computer and choose Properties - Hardware - Device Manager and clicked the DVD/CD-ROM drives; where the driver : Plextor CD-R PX-W5224A is located.
When i Disabled the driver then my PC shuts down properly.

Could you please give me some advice on how to resolve this issue?

Have you tried uninstalling the software that came with the drive and then reinstall it?

Windows XP, do not require additional drivers for this model, the driver installs automatically as soon as the hardware is detected.

I'm aware of that, but I wasn't sure if you were also refering to any burner related software. Are there any discs in the drive? You may try removing them if so. You can also "Remove" the drive in Device Manager and let Windows "rediscover" it and reload it's drivers.

When i start PC i get the following error message :

Quote:
InCD Error
Cannot connect to file system. InCD service not running.

Does this have to do anything with the Plextor driver?
How can i uninstall InCD?

Did you remove and redetect the Plextor as mentioned above? Have you gone into your BIOS to see if the Plextor is recognized?

InCD can usually be uninstalled from the Add/Remove programs window. You can also check Nero's site and see if there is an updated version.

Yes, i removed the Plextor driver and it was detected again by the operating system, in BIOS is also recognized ok.
I also uninstalled and reinstalled InCD.
But i still get the error message : ''System recovered from a serious error...'' etc. as i described in my first post.

I'm running out of ideas... I Googled a little and found a different forum *rumor* that some Plextors and some nVidia chipsets don't agree with each other, but there was no substantial proof of the claim. (and I don't know which mobo you have anyway...) The thing I'd try next, if it were me, would be to 1) try the Plextor in another computer to make sure it's not causing the problem, and 2) try a different drive in the problem computer to see if the problem clears up.

Anybody else have any other ideas??
