Remove NTFS File Permissions

A couple if months ago I decided to revert back to Home Edition from XP PRO (long story so I wont go into any detail if you know what I mean) so in doing so it reinstalled and got the computer up and running fine all the old files are still there, I just cant access them. How can I remove the file permissions?

You probably need to take ownership of the files. See if this helps:

Did you log in as Administrator in safe mode? Did you take ownership of all files and folders needed, and then grant Everyone full control?

It worked. I did just as you said and then took ownership via Panama Red's directions, and it worked. I never thought about booting into safe mode. Thanks guys.

The only way to access the Administrator account in XP Home is in safe mode. You MUST log in as Administrator for the Microsoft instructions to work.

Note You must be logged on to the computer with an account that has administrative credentials. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab.
