-the administrator.computername was not on my computer until yesterday.
-i did not create this profile.
-shouldn't there only be one administrator??
-i want to log on as "administrator", not as "administrator.computername" which is what is happening right now.
-i think i got a virus which added the folder "admininstrator.computername" and i need to remove it so I can log on as "administrator" and have my "administrator" profile load instead of the profile for "administrator.computername"

Have you been to Control Panel->User Accounts and tries deleteing it?

Did you by any chance try to connect to a "domain"?

-i am running windows 2000
-when i go to control panel->users and passwords-> ..under users..it lists the following: "administrator" and "guest"
-the administrator.computername does not appear under the list of users so it is impossible for me to delete it because it is not there.
-when i log onto my computer, I log on as "administrator" and provide my password, but it loads the "administrator.computer" profile.

thanx for the help

This happens when you change the domain of the computer.

If this is on an office network, your Domain Controller computer has changed the name of the office domain so your administrator account has created a profile for the new domain.
If this is a home computer, you must have changed the computer name.

Do not delete either of the folders, as you risk messing up the profiles on the computer. It does no harm at all to leave them as is.

You can select which profile to boot to and eliminate the sign on screen by using the Users and Passwords area of Control Panel. Uncheck the box for "users must enter passwords......", highlight the User name of your choice in the box below and click apply. Another box should pop up with that User name and password options. Leave the passwords blank and click Apply. You shouldn't be bothered with multiple user names any more and you'll only boot to the profile of your choice.

PR,

The problem Trin is having is when he goes to the "Docs and Settings" folder, he sees a profile for "Administrator" and "Administrator.[ComputerName]". He doesn't want the folder for "Administrator.[ComputerName]" to exist. I don't think he is having any problems logging in (correct me if I am wrong Trin).

Exactly Faulkner132!

thank-you for explaining exactly the problem. I need to get rid of the folder "Administrator.[ComputerName]".

-i am using a home computer
- i did not change the computer name. I do not know how.
-i came home and turned my computer on and the problem started. The system is VERY slow now.
-I can log on no problem, its just that when I do log on, the profile for "Administrator.[ComputerName]" is loaded and not "Administrator" even though it is "Administrator" I am loggin on as.

Trin, this should take care of your problem (as well as explain why it happened):

okay...i went to the link..thank-you..BUT...

-the instructions say to go to your old user profile, click properties, then under the security tab, select your username and click "allow" full control.

- my 'old profile' already had allow full control checked.

-the instructions then say to logon with the old profile. This is the problem...when i log on as "administator" the "administrator.computername" profile loads.

Did you apply the registry settings under the section "Edit the User Profile Registry Key"?
