Angry Fire Trying to Do a System Restore! Can't boot XP CD.

I have been getting a "Run a DLL as an App" error for a long time with absolutely no direction how to fix it. I decided to just run a system restore from the XP CD, hoping it would restore all system files to normal.

I switched my boot drive to my CD-ROM drive in my bios and when it tries to start up, it gives me a lot of trouble. The error I keep getting is this..

"CDBOOT: COULDN'T FIND NTLDR"

what is that? how do I fix it? I restored my system a few months ago and I didn't have this problem. Now I do.

I have windows XP home edition SP2.
My system is using the following:
MSI MS-6702 Mainboard
Athlon 64 3000+
Radeon 9800 Pro

You should be able to Restore to an earlier point without using the XP cd. System Restore is under Accesssories/System Tools in the start menu. However, Restore may not correct corrupted files. Try this method to "fix" the files.

Hmm.. well that's not what I meant.. I used the wrong word.. SYSTEM REPAIR!

The problem is that it's been like this since I reinstalled windows. I've tried everything. The file's either gone or corrupt or something.

I need to do a system repair, so it installs the system files without deleting my drives.

Ah, you meant a repair/install. Is your XP disk a legal version? Is it one with SP2 already on it or an ealier version?

The disk IS legal. It's OEM, so Microsoft woudln't help...

I think it has SP1 on it.. that's it.

Keep in mind that when you do the repair, you'll have to reinstall SP2 and all the updates from Windows Updates. Do you have a different CD drive you can install? It sounds like yours isn't reading the disk correctly.

Easiest thing is to clean the data side of the XP cdrom real well and see if that helps. I generally use those little alcohol wipes.
