Blue Screen of Death

I am getting the Blue Screen of Death when attempting to boot into Windows XP Pro. I though can boot into Windows safe mode. I already tried a System Restore which did not change things for the better.

Suggestions?

Thanks

Edit: I tried booting from the Windows CD. It says I need a system recovery disk. Can I make one from the computer in Safe Mode?

Edit...fixed the problem. How? I have no idea, It just started running normal.

I hate when that happens. You might want to do a through AV / malware scan. A friend of mine just had the very same symptoms. When I check it out for him, he had 13 viruses. After cleaning out the garbage, all things were good again.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Best thing to do when you get a BSOD is write down the error message and search the MS Knowledge base for possible causes. Or post it here for us to research. Glad you got it fixed. Dang Gremlins!

I have been having a similar problem with XP Pro. Instead of using safe mode I boot using the “last know configuration that worked”. This route does not always seem to help, but I have noticed that blue death window only occurs when I have a CD in one of my rom bays. Again don’t know if this is related (I’m going to post my boot problem later), but I thought I might give some insight.

Talking to Red: I have seen the error numbers that blue window displays, but I have not kept a record of them. Also sometimes when the blue window appears the PC immediately shuts down and restarts (ring any bells?). This is occurs sometimes, but also the blue window stays up with a whole bunch of info. Again the CD in the rom drive relation.

This problem is most annoying, because I have not isolated the culprit (maybe rom drivers, but not too sure). I have thought of backing up data all files and then trying several things: uninstalling one program at a time to see what happens. Downloading updated drivers from Microsoft. Reinstalling Windows XP (don’t really want to). Viruses?? I have done a Norton complete scan and noting, although I wish there was a program that allowed to boot to a 3.5 disk or cd-rom and then scan for viruses from the disk. There was an old DOS program that I had that was able to do that. Some viruses “hide” when doing a full system scan from windows. I don’t know if Norton 2003 has this ability, but if anyone has a good software tool to use I would be very grateful.
