What next? Repairing windows with XP CD... help plz.

I'm repairing windows with my XP CD. I loaded with the CD and input the admin password that it asks for so I could start repairing.. after that I get a prompt that says something like

C:/Windows> or whatever.. basically it sits there waiting for me to do something.. what's going on? What do I do?

You're trying to use the Recovery Console. That's the wrong Repair feature. Reboot the XP cd and when it says "Press any key to boot from the CD...." do so. When you get the first Repair option, select New Installation instead. When XP finds the existing installation you will be offered an option to repair the existing installation. Do that.
