Need help reconfiguring Drive Letters?
Hi
I am using Windows “Media Center Addition” and I would like to know how to reconfigure my drive letters. I have 2 internal hard drives C: and D: no problem there. I have a media card reader, drives E:, F:, G:, and H:. I have 2 CD drives, drives I: and J:. I have an external hard drive K:. I would like to have C and D stay the same but I would like my CD drives to move up to E and F and my external hard drive become G. Then the Media card reader would be H, I, J, and K. At one time I used to do this in Device Manager. There was a box where you could select the Id for the drive. As long as you changed the one you wanted to replace to something else before you plugged in a new one you could move them where ever you wanted but that doesn’t seem to be an option any more. Any help appreciated. Mike |

Not familiar with media centre but in XP you right click My computer and choose manage, from there you can select the drive and change the drive letter.

Thanks for the info; I got it fixed, not without some complications.
When I changed the drives the drive name, i.e. Media Card reader stayed with the location so that my CD and DVD drives were misidentified. For some reason they couldn’t be renamed in that location, so I had to move the media card readers back to that location, rename them DVD RW and CD RW and then move the real CD and DVD drives back to that location again. That worked so now everything is configured the way I want it. Thanks again Mike |
