System Restore,etc. not working (XP)
Hi Everybody,
I have an HP that did not come with a XP disk. System restore and troubleshooting programs are not working. I get an error message on system restore (the one about notifying Microsoft)--I get nothing when I click on a troubleshooting tab--as in troubleshooting hardware. I don't have a system recovery program either--I understand they use a hidden partition on the hard drive for XP disk instead of a CD--is this correct? Any way to use this?Thanx in advance! Not too sure but I think HP use one of the 'F' keys - might be F11; I've seen some other manufacturers use this key to enter their Recovery Console.
This information might be in the manuals supplied with the PC or on their website. EDIT: Don't HP give you the option of making a recovery CD/DVD? The last HP machine I dealt with gave me that option, but it was some time back. |

Negeva,
Thanx for reply! According to my manual, system recovery should be under system tools--nothing there except for Defrag,Disc clean up,System Restore, etc. I just checked the f keys-nothing there. I have found nothing yet on making a recovery CD. Computer seems to be working fine other than the system recovery issue (and troubleshooting).I suppose I could get one from HP--I'll check on it. Thanx again for the reply! Michael |

Can you tell us what model the machine is and approximately what year it was made?

Michael1, sorry when I mentioned the F keys it was during the POST screen, like when you enter the BIOS you press Del (or whatever), on some of the HP machines they have a recovery console (something like Norton's Ghost) which you can enter. hope that makes sense....too much sherry this Christmas
![]() Listing the model number is a good idea... |

Sorry--It's an HP 750c, computer crashed last year and I had a new motheboard installed. It's an MSI 7027,2.4 Celeron,760m.ram, Windows XP SP2. I tried the F keys in the blue screen-still nothing. I have also noticed that the help function does not work either. I haven't tried to use these functions in quite awhile--so I'm not sure when they stopped working. Thanx again for the replys!

Found this:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...cname=bph07143
According to the HP site you must press the F10 key during bootup; it will be just before the HP logo as you turn the machine one. Described here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...cname=bph07145 Did HP replace the motherboard? |

Negeva,
I just tried the F10 on boot-up and got nothing. Motherboard was replaced by a place here in town. They also rebooted the computer. I'm wondering if they left some things out on reboot? I don't get the HP screen on start up--just an MSI logo (and a couple other things-Extreme8 ). I also changed the hard drive awhile back with a new Western Digital. I cloned the new one with the software that came with it. Thanx again! Michael |

Dude,
You might want to re-think using System Restore at all. Check out these 2 posts at another forum about using Ghost 2003: http://www.helpscreen.com.au/index.p...6956796&cid=15 http://www.helpscreen.com.au/index.p...sgid=891004380 Bugs |
