Repairing a Windows
I am getting ready to repair a windows XP installation on my wife's computer. From what I understood there are 2 places when you open the repair console to choose the repair process. One of these is the correct place, the other is not. Which one do I choose?
Also I do not have the windows XP disk that came with my wife's computer. I do have my disk. Can I use it? They are both Dell computers.

Is it a real Windows disk? If so, then you can use it.
Are you doing a repair install or trying to use the recovery console? Those are two different things. To use the recovery console, boot from the Windows install CD and then hit R for the recovery console. To do a repair install, boot from the Windows CD, choose Install, then choose Repair install. |

Yes all of my software is legitimate. I am trying to install the hardrive with my documents and settings on my wifes computer. I have already installed her as a 2nd user on mine. Her computer is faster and has more memory for video editing, ect. Also the installation she currently has is messed up anyway, some teenager installed his hard drive on this computer. It is so messed up now. For example the IDE going to the hard drive will only operate if the black end goes into the HD and the grey to the MB( completely backwards). I have tried different cables and HD settings, but to no avail.
Are you doing a repair install or trying to use the recovery console> which of these do I do? Thank you in advance for your help.
