XP Pro login screen problem

Hello, have XP Pro. For some reason now, during boot up, small window asks me for login and password like I am logging into a network at work.

I just hit "OK" and everything boots up as normal.

I checked my network settings and everything looks normal, havent changed anything.

How do I get rid of this login window?

Thank you all.

Do you want to get rid of the password prompt? If so, then go to Start...Run, then type in "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. Uncheck where it says "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer". After you hit OK, it will ask you which username you want to use by default.

Dr. Gonzo,

Outstanding...thank you. How would I do this through the windows screens instead of the run prompt?

Thank you.

I don't know of a way to do it through the Control Panel, as that is a different interface for managing user accounts. They may hide it on purpose because doing an auto-login is a bad idea security-wise.

I don't remember where I first learned about that, but it was probably on these boards when this question was asked in the past.

In W98se?

I had to reload windows in one of my pc's and I'm getting the login screen again. It's been so long since I've had to disable this and I can't remember how to do it in W98.
"control userpasswords2" doesn't work in 98.
This time I'll write it down!

found it

Somehow it was changed to Client for Microsoft. I changed it back to "Windows Logon" and it's gone .
I asked here because my search for the topic in W98 gave me 20+ pages to go through and I couldn't find it.
Thank you anyway!!
