Something has stopped my pc from playing music CDs and DVD movies. Windows Media Player, CD player (comes w/ Win98), and Power DVD are all having a problem. However, I can still install programs and burn stuff, and Windows Media Player does work when I play a saved WMP music file.
For instance, when I attempt to play a music CD I get the following message: “Windows Media Player encountered an error when reading the CD-ROM drive in digital mode. Click OK to switch to analog mode. Click Cancel to retry playing in digital mode.” I tried both choices, but nothing works. I have QuickTime Player and Real Player on the pc, but never use them. No physical changes have place taken place. All drives are affected. (D: CD-ROM (DMA enabled) (E: DVD (DMA enabled) (F: CD-RW (DMA enabled) Any ideas? Thanks in advance! |

I might add, I have already dumped all cookies, internet temp files, Win98 temp files, and ran Ad-Aware spywear remover as usual.

To play in analog mode, you have to use an audio cable between the drive and your sound card.
