Windows Recognition Problem

I am trying to help out a friend here. He just installed more ram into his Dimension 8400 that can support 4gb. Well he is at 4 GB but xp home only recgonized 3gb. What is wrong with this computer?

May not be a "problem" in the sense that some mobo / mem combos don't recognize the full 4GB (and in the sense that you may not be able to do anything about it). Researching the mobo's manual should indicate if it will show / recognize the full amount.

Did he buy the ram from a configurator or did he buy generic ram? Dells can be fussy.
