Windows XP Home edition needs repair

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a windows xp home edition disc to perform a repair on a different computer than the one it was originally installed onto?
I need to try a repair on a Dell Deminsion 4600 and do not have the original install disc.

All help is appreciated!

Does it matter that the Key is different from the Dell restore CD?

It might work, or maybe not. A restore disk from the same model Dell would probably work. When it asks for the key use the original key for your machine.

The Dell XP CD is actually a generic XP keyed to a Dell bios, so you can use a generic OEM XP CD to do repairs, but not a restore CD from any other brand computer. If it doesn't like the CD key on the case, use the one on the CD but change it back when you are done with Magic Jellybean.

glc....

I never thought of doing it that way....Using MJB to change the key back....I have always had to call MS when I entered the key on the case and it didn't accept it...Learned something new today..
