System Re-boot on Dial-up
I've just built up a new PC and loaded a brand new copy of XP home. I am using my existing modem that was working just fine with my previous system(also an XP system).
As soon as I dial to my ISP, I get connection OK, see the message verifying user name and password, then the system reboots. I have now done this about 8 times with always the same result. I have loaded all of my applications on the PC and they all work just fine with nothing strange happening. The system has not been connected to the internet at all yet so a virus or similar is highly unlikely. Although I have zone alarm and Norton anti-virus installed. I have tried dialling with them both disabled, no change. I also have the XP firewall disabled. Any clues for me folks? I appreciate your help. |

You have a bad modem driver. Uninstall it, shut down, physically remove the modem, restart, shut down, reinstall the modem using the correct driver.
