windows update

hey everybody. not sure what an appropriate title wouldve been but here goes.
i reinstall windows on many machines (i work part time from home) but i really hate having to download the windows updates everytime i reinstall. is there a package that m$ offers that has all of the updates? Or any other site? I checked m$ site but couldnt find anything. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

I don't think there is such a thing. While there are a lot of updates, some newer ones supercede others and thus manual installs of them wouldn't really be viable. Better to let the software work out what your system needs, even if it is a lengthy process.

Some of the larger updates you could download are Service Pack 2 (obviously contains a lot of updates within itself), and perhaps the Net Framework, Direct X and WMP (all things which have to be installed seperately from the main process anyway).

No problem. Not sure if this will help, depending on whether you use a particular windows disc for your installs and the age of it; but you can slipstream Service Pack 2 into a non-SP2 disc.

You can order XP SP2 on a CD at no charge at this link.
Also you can manually download any updates you need and save the files to reuse them the next time you need them.
Then you could just hit the windows update site for a list of what is needed and skip anything you already have available
.
