Fresh install of Windows XP
Am I correct in my assumption that if I want to replace Windows 98SE with the least possible trouble, I can:
1) use FDISK to delete my primary partition (FAT32) 2) use FDISK to create a new primary partition (NTFS) 3) install Windows XP from CD 4) leave my secondary partition alone on the same drive as FAT32 5) install my programs 6) resume usage of the data in the secondary partition Or do I have to delete both partitions, secondary then primary, then create both again? Thanks, Alan |

You shouldn't have to use FDISK before you install XP. When you install Windows XP, you will have the chance to partition and format your drive however you want. But your idea of keeping the second partition should work.

As doctorgonzo pointed out .. DO NOT USE THE WIN98 FDISK AT ALL. Just boot with the XP CD. All you need to do is to SELECT the first partition and click ENTER to install to that partition, you will be given a choice of formatting it to NTFS.

Other system issues aside, that worked just fine. Thanks for your confirmations.
