Question defragmentation of drive C : but what about Windows?

Windows XP SP1, during his installation, occupy about 4 gigabites of space on drice C.
After a disc check, Windows says : "you should defragment this disc" .What if I defragment it ? Defragmentation may boost it or crashe it ????
Uh !!! Simple question ... in fact ! Windows he likes or no ?
Thanks for advices....

Defragmenting won't hurt your drive or make Windows crash unless something extraordinary happens, like the power goes out in the middle of it. Defragmenting regularly is good computer maintenance.
