freind brought over his compaq presario 7594, and said it was running slow and trying to lock down occccasionally. when I turn the conputer on it said something about third device then went into compaq bios screen. after a min. or two it reads "operating system not found on any devices. press any key to try again." and try again I did .including turning off comp. and letting it set. for about 15 min. sorry got to go to work will ask later to night.

It sounds like one or more of these options - badly infected, accidently deleted needed files, or a failed drive.

I'd pull the hard drive out and slave it into another machine, run every scan you can on it first then and only then explore its contents- you do not want anything on it coming over to your drive to play!

If you can see files in there, pull and back up anything they need first, then put it back in the Compaq and let us know the results.

Talk about a vicious and insidious virus, it actually erases the hard drive from this dimension. I sure hope it did not spread to your machine!

Glad it was figured out.....
