Installed XP, startup still asking if I want to boot from XP or 2000

I Installed Windows XP yesterday but the black screen before startup is still asking me whether I want to boot from windows 2000 or XP. It syas it will boot from the selected os in like 20 seconds and it's by default highlighting XP, but my wireless keyboard won't respond and I don't know how to set up any further. I thought it would erase the old windows (which it said it would do at the installation screen) but it didn't. Is there a way to totally remove windows 2000 ?

chances are, 2000 was removed, and if you selected it, nothing would happen. this happens occasionally on installs and isn't anything to worry about.

to fix, right click on my computer and go to properties. go to the advanced tab, and then startup and recovery. there is a button labeled 'edit' and this will open notepad with your startup choices. remove the line regarding windows 2000 and hit save and then exit. once you restart, you will be good to go.

your keyboard issue could be related to the fact that USB isn't on during boot. i know this was the case with me. once i enabled it in my BIOS, i have been fine ever since

glad it worked for you. i still haven't figured out why it does this, so if anyone knows, i would much appreciate an answer. it seems kind of silly if you are formatting that this would happen

Another quick question, when I adjust the sond, the motherboard speaker chimes, it didn't do it with windows 2000, is there a way to disable that?
