XP sp1 usb drivers

Hello:

I hope this is in the right forum. I had to replace the motherboard and cpu on a machine that I built. I reinstalled the software that came with the motherboard (Asus K8N). The machine has windows xp sp1 on it and the usb ports won't work. When I go to the system/hardware and unstall the usb controllers and then try to reinstall them, the drivers won't install, even though they are in the right place on the hard drive. All this is very frustrating, can anyone help?

Thanks.

Are the ports USB 1.0 or USB 2.0? WinXP SP1 has the drivers for USB 2.0 already built in.

Did you check to see if the USB ports are disabled in the BIOS?

Since you changed out some parts you might have to do a WinXP Repair Install.

Check the usb connection to the mobo as well. I put one back together once, and get the USB connector aligned properly on the board.

Did you uninstall the old motherboard drivers first? Even if this is the same board it is a good Idea to uninstall the MB drivers before putting in a new board... Also if you used a different board by ASUS you need to install the drivers specifically for that board... In law had a problem with one board that was put in without uninstall the drivers and it casued his system to not load.. The next time it was done (by me) drivers were uninstalled and then reinstalled after word with no issues...

Thanks for the help. I didn't know enough to uninstall the old motherboard drivers first, actually I don't know how to uninstall the motherboard drivers. I did look at the bios but couldn't find anything at all about the USB ports. Anyway what I ending up doing is downloading and installing SP2 which fixed the USB problem.
