XP Install issue

Hey Guys,

I am reinstalling XP on my machine (i did not have a virus or anything) and numerous times during install i get an error

"could not copy file ***.dll this is not a valid windows Xp image"

Gives me the option to try again, ignore or abort

The issue is if i hit ry again and manage to get through the set-up the OS crashed at windows all the time (I get errors instaling everquest, windows explorer always has erros and shuts down when I'm browsing through my files... Internet explorer encounters errors and ****s down on me) Really lost dunno what to do?

Pls help

Do you have any usb devices connected to the mobo during this install? Did you return the oc to stock values first? That's a must.

Does your copy of Windows have any scratches? Have you used this disk to perform an install before? Try checking your memory. Bad memory will emit some pretty weird errors during installations and boot up.

I have returned cpu clock speed to default value, I have used 3 different copys of XP to ensure not a scratch or c.d. issue

Does that include anything like a card reader or similar device that plugs into a mobo usb header? Having them connected can mess up an install too.

I just reread your first post. Is this a repair install or did you delete the partitons and reformat the entire hard drive?

If you did a clean install reformat HD, and still have issues try to download Memtest86 from another machine and run it... I believe it works even with no OS installed...
