oem vs. retail operating system
What's the difference between the OEM and retail versions of windows XP? I'm ordering parts for a new system & I wonder if I need the boxed version.
thanks

there is no diffrence, one comes with the box, which is useless and the other in a plastic rapper. they both contain the same OS

The only other "advantage" to buying retail is Microsoft will provide support for Retail but not for oem. For oem support (or retail for that matter!) you're in the right place - PC Mech!

If I buy oem, will I be able to call MS next year when I put in a new hard drive, and can't get the os loaded because of activation issues?
