Noob Question about changing OS

Hi there. Sorry for posting such a noob question here.

If I wanted to update my OS, would I have to partition/delete everything on the HDD?

i updated my computer from win2k to xp and lost nothing.
i think you're ok as long as you choose the upgrade option and not the fresh install.

What OS do you have now? You might have to change file systems... (I think) I believe Win 2K and XP both use NTFS while Win 9x uses FAT. Might be wrong though...

Since peekaboo said he went from 2K to XP without loss, and I think they both use the same file system you should be OK. But don't quote me... Of course, make sure the computer can handle XP.
