Windows 2000 Boot up
Hi:
I'm trying to work on two Dells..Optiplex 100 and 110, I have been trying fix the 100, but I hate to take the power supply out of the 110. The 100 has a dead power supply and the 110 has a good power supply. I have tried to take the hard drive from the 100 and put it into the 110. I can get it to boot up to he Windows 2000 start up screen, but it stops there. It won't boot up in safe mode either. The 100 had Windows 2000 on it and the 110 had Windows xp profession on it. I am trying to keep from taking the power supply out of the 110 and putting it into the 100. Does any of this make sense? Any ideas or help would be appreciated. |

It most likely stops due to difference in hardware installed. Unless the hardware from the 100 matches the hardware in the 110, Windows will most likely not do a full boot. When you install an OS, it loads itself to fit the hardware configuration of that machine, and no other. You will have to wipe out that disk and reinstall the OS. It should (knock wood) work fine.

If the power supply is the issue in the one that won't boot, my suggestion is to just purchase a new one and take it from there....
