1 Download, 2 Shortcuts.....!!

Hi all,
I've all of a sudden started getting 2 shortcut Item's on my desktop from the same program I've downloaded....I download some free stuff to try out from places like download. com, so as they are just .exe files, once installed I delete them......Now when I delete either 1 of the 2, then try to delete the other one I cant because XP says it cannot find the specified path.....
Now as it's no problem to get rid of it by right clicking & refreshing the desktop, I'm wondering if anybody could shed some light on WHY it's started doing this......

Much appreciated...........

Haven't heard of this before. Did you happen to install a download managing type of program among the group you've tried out?

Does this happen no matter what program you install? (If so, I wonder if your MS Installer has been altered).

You could try a System Restore, of course, to a point prior to this behavior & see if that fixes it.

Might run some thorough scans, too, just in case whatever made the unwanted change isn't friendly.

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[you could try both the restore and the malware scans from Safe Mode]

Let us know if you find that it's something interesting.
