windows won't start up!!!!

Hello

I'm not able to get windows started booted up. When I turn on my laptop I get this message:

Starting Windows 95

The following file is missing or corrupted: c:\Windows\himem.sys

The following file is missing or corrupted c:\windows\ifshlp.sys
himem.sys is missing.
Make sure that the file is in your windows directory.

Windows has stopped. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart your computer.

Any help will be really appreciated. Thank You

It's more likely bad ram. Test it. You need a working floppy drive or a bootable CD-Rom drive.

i have a stupid little p3 windows 95 doing the same thing . i tried to put in some more ram and all of a sudden the keyboard doesnt work and the mouse doenst work , at one point i got into windows in safe mode (dont ask how) and now all it wants to do is scan for viruses and wont let me in 95 . ive tried 3 keyboards all of them i know work and 3 different types of mouses , usb/ps2/ and that crazy old school style one . nothing works . oh i pulled out the ram i tried to put in after it didnt work . this is my first time dealign with 95 so its all very unfamiliar to me . xp goes into it some time next week . im thinking of giving up and leting the tecs do it

well i fixed my problem . turns out my step brother put the keyboard in the mouse port and the mouse in the keybaord . *roles eye . i dont even know hoe he forced them in there . im just glad it wasnt my computer and it wasnt me who was responsible for sucha mistake , and now i know why mine is all usb

Any PS/2 plug will fit in a PS/2 port - and that's what those are. That's a very easy mistake to make if the ports and plugs aren't color coded to standard. The current standard is purple for keyboard and green for mouse.

You may be missing some of the necessary startup files for Windows, in which case you would have to re-install.

pj5, those errors in a 95 startup are 90% of the time caused by bad ram. Test it and replace as necessary and it will then start fine.
