XP Preinstall Dual boot questions
I intend to start a new drive with a 2nd install of XP Pro and eventually make the 2nd install become the primary drive.
The questions. When installing 2nd XP on a slave drive, will a dual boot set up automatically or is there other a steps I need to take? Once I have the slave drive operating the way I want it, I intend to remove the master drive and make the slave the master Will there be any adjustments I need to make to remove the dual boot status? |

Set both drives to cable select from master slave to get the dual boot configuration... When the system finally boots you will have 2 listings fro XP Pro....

Installed 2 instance of XP and set both drives to cable select as doubledragon5 suggested . When I boot, XP boots the original install only, no selection for with XP I want. Checked the bios and do not see any settings for cable select. Is there something I am missing in the process?

Here’s another thought.
When viewing the Boot.ini file from the original install which is on my C drive or disc (0) it looks like this. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn If I were to edit this so the boot.ini will offer both drives and OSs at boot up and OS of 2nd install of XP is on the D (slave) or disc (1) from disc manage when viewed from original OS would it look like this. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(1)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect |
