It'll depend if you're currently using all or most of the available ram. Can open task manager and look for available ram in the performance tab. I have a gig of ram in this machine and currently have over 300 megs available/unused/sitting around collecting dust. Adding more for me would be a waste.

Adding more RAM is a good idea if you currently notice your computer constantly going to the swap file while you're working. Adding more RAM will reduce the swap file usage and allow your computer to run more efficiently.

Ram is cheap enough - put as much in as you can afford. We recommend 1 gig for XP regardless of how you use the computer.
