I have mine disabled cause I don't need it. Are you having issues with your mouse?

No I am actually having issues with all of the hotbuttons on the laptop. for example none of his Fn keys work or his quick buttons for volume. Also, he is missing the volume control on the taskbar, so I went into control panel and sounds and audio devices and tryed checking the box to put it on the taskbar and it came up with the error " volume control is not installed. Use add/remove programs to add it." But the audio drivers were installed, sound was coming out of the laptop and you could adjust the slider for the volume in the control panel to adjust the sound volume, so volume control was also installed. There were a few viruses on this machine that is another possibility because I dont know what windows error message would tell you to reinstall drivers through the control panel\Add-Remove programs.....any clues? Oh and also, checked all of the drivers for the keyboard and laptop they are all good and updated as well.

Was looking around MS Knowledgebase and learned something new today->

"Note HID peripherals are Universal Serial Bus (USB) devices such as keyboards, game controllers, and scanners that comply with the Device Class Definition for HID 1.11 standard."

Hmmmm.....so basically HID is just for legacy USB devices....so any hot buttons on the laptop would be controlled by drivers from sony's site......I downloaded the drivers but nothing.....it is also strange how along with no hot buttons like his sound control, he also can't use any of the Fn keys. i.e like switching from the lcd on the laptop to an external screen (it is Fn then the f7 key) but nothing happens when you use any of them.....

"There were a few viruses on the machine"

How about spyware? What virus scanner have you used to remove this malware? Often when multiple fuctions began to fail all at once, malware is the culprit.
