MS WMF security update causes PC to freeze

Ever since I installed their WMF security update about 2 weeks ago, my PC frequently freezes on me, and one of my three HDD no longer shows up under windows. Plus my PC often makes strange, squeaky noises.
I uninstalled the 'security patch', but that didn't solve the issue.
Does anyone know how to resolve this? Preferably without having to reinstall all my programs.
I checked the MS site, but they don't mention this problem or any potential fix or patch.
Thanks!

I doubt it's the patch that caused it. Sounds more like that hard drive died.
