Can anybody please help me with two things?
1. How can I edit the Hosts file? I know it can be done but I have forgotten how. Where is it located and what do I use to edit it? 2. Is it possible to edit the file that holds the User Ids and passwords that are saved for on-line web-site access? Is it encrypted? Where is it and what could be used to edit it? Any advice would be welcome. Regards, Ron Driscoll

Hosts file is in Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc. If you installed Windows to another directory, go to that one.

Thanks PCMechSupporter
Thanks for the response. The issue I was trying to address regards user ids/pawsswords is to do with only my PC. Sometimes when you enter this info for a website Windows will ask you if you want the info to be saved. The problem is that sometimes I have answered yes when the info is incorrect. I was wondering if I could get into the file to edit out the incorrectly saved info.

I don't know if you can directly edit it (I don't use IE), but I know you can clear the saved password info. In IE, go to Tools...Internet Options, then click on the Content tab, then click on the AutoComplete button. You can then click on Clear Passwords to erase all the password information.

Thanks doctorgonzo
Thanks for the post. would prefer to edit rather than delete all, but it is a good option if nothing else is possible. Thanks again.

I believe it's an all or nothing deal - if you want more control over that, you need something like Roboform.

Thanks again
PCMech Supporter,
Thanks again for taking the time to post a reply. Looks like I'll have to go through the clear and re-enter routine. Best Regards, Ron Driscoll |
