Slow Load Times...

Whenever I boot up my computer for the first time each day (well...to be exact...maybe 15 hours; 7 sleeping, rest school), it takes Windows XP Pro a while to load up. After that, it boots up pretty quickly each time I turn it on. Why is that?

Check MSConfig for any applications that aren't needed upon start up. Additionally, try a Malware/Spyware/AntiVirus Scan just to rule out those options.

You can verify your start up entries at SysInfo, under start up.

Keep it activated. I have left mine activated and it hasn't caused any problems.

Still, what are your specs? My boot takes 20-30 seconds. But I scan with 6-8 (don't make me count) anti-virus/trojan/malware/spyware/adware programs like every 2 days. I defrag and also do chkdsk in comand promt every once in a while. I try to optimize my computer, I also have a couple things to boot in start-up. I'd make sure your computer isn't heating too much. Yesterday at very hot envirnment at school like 80-85F my system was at 93F and it took 2-4 minutes to boot. But once I rebooted a couple of times it started to get back to its normal speed and boot 20-30 seconds. I'm guessing once the silicon in the IC started to heat and expand they became operatable. Still if you have an Intel I'd try to keep it cool!! Heat kills.

I rebooted a few more times and it's averaging out to around 9 seconds. I just built this so there's not much on it at the moment. My CPU, according to the setup monitoring thingy, stays around 100°F - 110°F, which I've always though was a bit too high.

CPU: Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Video: eVGA 7800GT (the N516 model)
Mobo: A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Memory: 2x1GB Corsair ValueSelect of some sort
HDD: Maxtor 200GB Serial ATA 150
PSU: Phantom 500 500W
Case: Antec P180

I think that's all the big stuff...

It's about a week old now.

Uh I have never seen a PC load into windows in that short a time. Mine will get into windows in around 20 seconds, but takes longer to load my AV and firewall and other monitoring applications. Those temps are a little high for a CPU running idle - did you check to make sure your HeatSink is properly seated on to of your CPU? What are room temperatures?

What do you mean "After that, it boots up pretty quickly each time I turn it on."? Are you saying you turn the computer completely off and then the next time you turn it on it boots up faster? Or are you bringing the system out of stand-by? Hibernation? Sleep mode?

I don't see how any computer can be cold booted to Windows in only 1.68 seconds.

It can't be 1.68 seconds, thats way too fast. But it can't be 1 minute and 68 seconds neither. When I read that I thought he meant 1 minute and 58 seconds.

100 to 110 F is plenty cool enough. That's 37 to 44 C.
