XP Downoad Problem help needed please

Hello, i have been to Microsoft update, on there there are 4 failed security downloads of mine, and one Cancelled. Deleted them from Add & Remove, re-started my computer, they are still in Red for Failed and - for Cancelled on the windows update website.

Tried to understand how to fix the problem, but not in ordinary computer users understanding.

Also, in update part, already downloaded security updates, now has Multiple duplicates of the same ones. 2 or three of each. (kb899587) (kb896422) (kb899591) (kb896688 all failed This one was cancelled kb896688 How do i get them sorted.

I am having a problem with I.E. and it was because of looking for an answer that i came across the above. The problem is with third party browsers, in advanced in Internet explorer, i have to untick Third party browser extensions, as i cannot open ebay, or Microsoft downloads to download what i need, when i try, i get a message Re:iexplore saying, I.E. Has eno****ered a problem and needs to close. Error signature appname iexplore.exe appver 6.0.2900.2100 modver 6.0.2900.2802 offset 0006ac92 modname:mshtml.dll i cannot get Skype, Google, Ebay Toolbars to work if Third party browser extensions are ticked.
Downloaded Firefox, they work perfectly in there, but i prefer Internet Explorer.

Not sure if these two are two separate problems, or Joined in some way.

Anyone know what i should do, thanks GEP

First off, I would scan for any malware on the machine using AVG ant-virus, AdAware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy.

If you haven't done so already, install spywareblaster. This keeps (currently) 5,440 objects from being installed.

Windows updates will fail if the time and date on the computer are set incorrectly. Check this first.

(If this is a consideration), illegal copies of Windows XP will sometimes not update properly.

To stay malware free: AVG antivirus/antispyware, Malwarebytes anti malware, Commodo Pro free firewall, ccleaner, Windows updates. or....

just install Linux

Too many computers in this house to list. They are all my builds, some AMD some Intel...

Hello Kev7555, thanks for your reply, have got all the above on and more besides. Time on PC perfect.

My computer came with XP Pro media centre pre-installed.

Thanks, GEP
