Is there any way to make those "notification pop-ups" disappear?

I've recently installed win XP o I'm just getting to grips with the pros and cons. There is one annoying little bit and it has to do with those notification pop-ups on the right side of the taskbar (those that show up every time I disconnect a USB device, when I connect to a wireless network, "you have inactive icons", "help us improve office") and so on. Is there any way to make them fade away or something after a certain amount of time (5 secs or something like that) without having to click on the X? Thanks
