Yes, you have to buy a copy for each computer. Installing one copy on multiple computers is not allowed.
To do a new install, I would simply insert the CD again and do a new install. Make sure you do a new install, not a repair install. Delete the Windows partition and reformat. |

Really?? If I build me a decent gaming machine and give this pc to my daughter (who lives at home) i have to purchase another copy of xp?
Microsoft will not let you run it on 2 pc's at one time or just never register it to another pc? I guess since alot of people shared earlier versions of winws microsoft is getting some of their money back. |

If that is the case I could just put 98se on this one or buy the upgrade to xp and should be good to go.
Does anyone know for sure? If I uninstall it from one can I put it on another and be ok? |

Yes, you can move it to a different computer if you uninstall it from the original. You just can't have it on more than one computer at a time.

Yes, when you install XP on the second machine you must call Microsoft (the number to call will be displayed when you try to activate) and you must explain to them that XP has been removed from one machine and is installed on only one machine. they will then give you a new installation ID to type in and XP will activate.

You can purchase an OEM version of Windows XP Home for only $99.99 at Newegg or you can do a Froogle search for it to find it even cheaper. There is really no difference in XP pro and Home except for business utilities that your daughter would most likely not use.

The OEM version Of XP is actually cheaper than the upgrade version.
