Restore Points Disappeared

I just created a system restore point a few minutes ago, and after it was created I thought I would check on the description I just gave to it. To my amazament all I found was the restore point I just created and a another one that was created earlier today when i restarted my system.

No dates in bold for previous days, the little arrow to view last months does nothing. I know I have creates several restore points over the past months, may 3 or 4 points, plus the system checkpoints, where did all of these go?

I checked the settings for system restore in my computer properties and it is enabled and there is free space on my partitions to create endless restore points.

I think that's a consequence of how system restore works. System restore is like a differential backup: every restore point builds off of the next one. So, to go back a week, the computer first restores to yesterday, then the day before, then the day before, etc. It's like taking plates of a stack one at a time to get to the bottom on.

However, I think that sometimes when you make a new restore point, it breaks the chain and you have to start over. That's why the old ones disappear.

I don't think that is right doctorgonzo, I used to have the option to restore from different restore points from both that I created and those created by the system. And this time I created a restore point, it didn't delete the older ones, not all of them at least. Still exists the one created by the system earlier today on startup and one created while uninstalling a program.

The one created by the system earlier today may have somehow "broken" the chain of earlier restores, rendering them unusable.

Check the setting to see how much space it is allowed to use. open system restore. click system restore settings, click settings on the page that pops up and check where the slider is set. If it is too low it won't keep many restore points available.

Moving the slider to a smaller space setting will wipe out all restore points...
